Lost Wax Casting
A very Traditional and Specialist Process mainly used by artisan jewellers to create small runs of their work. One particular project required this old fashioned means of casting, to really capture the feel of a historical handmade item.
A Wax duplicate cast from an original Master is covered with a special plaster and heated in an oven. As the plaster bakes the wax inside melts away giving the process its name. Brass or other molten metal is poured into the empty mould and once cooled the plaster is cracked open to reveal the final metal casting.
